Embarking on the “new” causes many of us to reflect on the past and make decisions for the present or near future. Many of us want to be “better” in the eyes of God and those around us. In taking on this challenge of creating a new atmosphere and future for our lives many of us embrace a “word” to carry us into and through the New Year.
My word is “fellowship,” which simply means, relationship with a group of people with similar interests or feelings. Fellowship has become so important to me because for too long I have lived in isolation. This state of being didn’t necessarily happen on purpose, it happened because I accepted the notion that I’m an introvert, and I’ve used that as an excuse to stay comfortable in my shell.
As I reflect on this notion, I remember as a kid being the life of the party at family functions. I loved to be silly and make everyone laugh. That brought me joy. I wonder: What happened to that girl?
As I reflect, I must admit that sometimes life can throw things your way to chip away at your confidence in who you know you were created to be. So, this year I want to revive who I was truly created to be through fellowship.
As I reflect, I began to recognize that keeping myself shielded has been a blatant act of sin against God. Not participating in fellowship has kept me from doing the work God has called me to do as a Christian. In Matthew 25:34-40, God explains that we are to make the stranger, hungry, sick, naked, and imprisoned the center of our feelings and interest.
If I’m not connected to His Word or His people, more than likely I cannot and have not fulfilled his commands. What we do unto others, we do unto God because God dwells in each and every one of us.
What is your “word” as you embark on the “new”? Embrace that word. Live that word. Allow it to carry you into and through another year gifted to you by the one and only true God.
Prayer for Today – Lord, I thank you for the gift of life and the opportunity to see another year. As I embark on the “new,” allow me to see who I really am through you and what you would have me to do to be more like you.
Coach Yourself to Greatness!
- Look yourself in the mirror right now. Who do you see on the outside? Who do you see on the inside?
- What truly matters is who we are on the inside. Are you exuding a spirit of Christ from the inside? If not, what would it take to exemplify his Glory through you?
- How will your “word” for the year allow you to reinforce who God wants you to be?
