We all know that a tornado is a storm cloud that has grown, gained momentum, and has the power to destroy any and everything in its path.
Sometimes in life we experience these same storm clouds that tend to get out of control and send us spiraling down into a funnel of trials.
We find ourselves spinning out of control in the midst of a tornado. We’re thrown to the right of the storm where we find our finances are at stake. We turn to the left of the storm and we find a relationship with our close friend is going sour. We duck from another issue that has made it into our funnel and we find our health is at stake.
Just when the tornado seems to be slowing down we get hit in the face with some old debris – we find the fear of our finances being at stake has come to pass and we’ve been laid off from our job.
Fortunately, life isn’t that harsh and we usually have an inkling or warning of what’s to come. We usually know the source of our trials because we’ve spotted it long ago, but we’ve ended up in a whirlwind of trials because we’ve chosen to ignore it.
In fact, we’ve seen this very storm cloud before – the one that grows into a tornado but instead of moving to safer ground or making a better decision we watch, wait, and expect the best.
This reminds me and I’m sure you as well of the people who have been given an early forecast that a major storm is coming. They are told to leave their comfort zone and seek higher ground but instead they decide to weather the storm at the expense of those that now have to rescue them.
The first thing that we think about when we’re watching those people on the news usually sounds something like this in our minds: “They sure are stupid!”
However, they’re not stupid they just lack wisdom and most importantly they lack an emergency preparedness plan.
See, most emergency preparedness plans include a list of situational to do’s such as if “A” happens then you need to do “B”. And just as important as that, the emergency preparedness plan will include a checklist of items you need to survive or thrive in the midst and shortly after the storm.
Everyone’s checklist will look different based on the storm they’re weathering, but the only thing that should be common and #1 on everyone’s list is the instructional manual for life called the B-I-B-L-E.
Most of us keep allowing itty-bitty storm clouds to turn into a funnel of trials because we fail to open our emergency preparedness plan and gather the things needed on the checklist.
What storm do you see brewing in your life? Will you sit and watch, wait, and expect the best or will you take action to seek higher ground before that trial comes to knock you down?
