You may often ask, “How do I become diligent?” “I get an idea, I’m fired up, and I feel strongly about what God has placed in my heart, but somehow over time, the spark begins to wane and I feel self-defeated and doubtful that God has spoken to me at all.”
Ah…these questions and thoughts are so commonplace, and I truly believe that’s why only 2% of the world’s population control the wealth. It’s very difficult for human beings to remain consistent or diligent in what they have set their minds to do. Why?
The answer to this question is three-fold, and the key to it all rest in the mind. First we must ask God to guard our minds, second we must ask God to order our steps, and third we must ask God for wisdom.
Guarding Our Minds – We get an idea and we are fired up. We may think about it over and over again; drafting a plan in our minds. We get so excited we start to tell everyone around us because the joy we are experiencing from “what may be” can’t be contained. Then a few days, weeks, or months go by and we haven’t remained diligent with the cup that has been given to us; it’s now empty. We’ve allowed the enemy of doubt, fear, and lack of resources to discourage us from moving from Step A to Step B. Sometimes we have to keep our plans between us and God. We must mediate in his word and cast out any thoughts that would go against what we know God has for us. Remember, it is not our strength that will allow us to accomplish our goals, but it is His strength that will do it for us. Read Psalms 37:23 for encouragement in this area.
Ordering Our Steps – No plan is any good if you keep that draft up in your mind. You must write it down and determine what Steps you will take to accomplish your goal. Start slow and start small. Once you have a solid plan and have gained consistency in accomplishing those “Baby Steps” then you have permission to use that momentum to bump up your pace or outreach. Read Ecclesiastes 9:11 for wisdom in this area.
Asking for Wisdom – There is no doubt that you will face stumbling blocks on your road to success. It’s inevitable, and it’s all a test that will propel you higher and higher. During these times of uncertainty, you must ask God for wisdom. Ask him to show you how to defeat roadblocks. He will send people, resources, or the Holy Spirit to whisper his inclination in your ear; however, you must be abided in Him to clearly hear that soft whisper. Read Proverbs 16:9 to seal this message in your heart and get started with asking God to give you Steps towards a greater destiny!
Here are some questions that will allow you to coach yourself into greatness!
- What dream had you fired up but somehow the flame waned and died?
- What can you do to reignite that dream in your mind and heart?
- If your dream was ALIVE and you could touch it, feel it, smell it, sow into it, and reap rewards from it; what did you do to REALIZE that dream?
