“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns – broken cisterns that can hold no water.” Jeremiah 2:13 – KJV
In this scripture, the Lord is plainly saying, “You’ve turned your back on me, the fountain of living waters – your source of sustenance, peace, and joy. See, in the natural, water is a renewable resource that we can consume over and over again; however, there is a process called the water cycle that must be completed before the water is replenished. There are many dry and barren lands that are yearning for the source of life to sustain it. In the natural, this may take days, months, or even years but with God – a God of living waters, the source never runs dry, nor do we have to wait for his loving hand to be placed over our lives. He is ever-present and willing to provide for every need – if we just let Him in. There’s no need to wait. Yet many of us have forsaken Him. We’ve taken the broken pieces of a delicate jar or cistern and we’ve tried to mend it, but that mended jar still has cracks and crevices, so much so that the water – matter that sustains life seeps through, falls to the ground, and vanishes.
My friend, aren’t we just that, a delicate jar with many broken pieces? How many times have we tried to mend those broken pieces by shopping for the next best thing, hooking up with the wrong companion, or abusing substances that will eventually take our minds or kill us? The list can go on and on with the abuses that we inflict upon ourselves just to fill in those empty spaces; those leaking cracks, yet we get the same results, an empty vessel, deprived of the water that sustains life. The path that we are following will only lead us to fall down and vanish away.
My friend, God wants so much more for our lives, He is the source that sustains life. He is the well of living waters that never dries. He purifies our hearts, minds, and bodies. He heals us from the hurts of this world. Reconnect with the source and turn your dry and barren places into joy, abundance, and a promise of eternal life.
Let’s Pray – Father, we are thankful that you are a God of living waters – a source of contentment, peace, and healing that we can depend on at any hour. Lord we ask that you will mend our broken pieces. We cannot heal on our own, but we need Your power to fill in those cracks and crevices with a glue that holds it all together; Your limitless love.
