Read James 1:12-15 (NKJV)
What do you usually do in the face of temptation? You either resist temptation or give in to your fleshly desires. Whatever the case, you must be equipped with the full-armor of God to walk away blameless and free from sin.
The flesh is very powerful and desires to be satisfied at all costs. It will cause you to do and say things that will have a negative impact on your life. It takes time and the practice of the following principles to overcome the tempter and leave him in perpetual flight – away from you and your dwelling place (James 4:7).
Meditate on the Word of God – Take the time to find scriptures that relate to your greatest struggles or weaknesses in life. Meditate on these scriptures daily and allow them to permeate your heart and soul. Meditating on the Word of God will enable the Holy Spirit to remind you of God’s will for your life when you are tempted by the tempter. Speak the truth aloud into the universe so that destiny will follow the path that God has for you.
Fast – Fasting brings you closer to God because it assures our Father in Heaven that you are willing to sacrifice just as Jesus sacrificed his life to save the world. Fasting not only strengthens your relationship with God, but it creates discipline in your flesh. During this practice of fasting you are giving up something, such as food for a designated period of time, and rejecting the yearnings of the flesh, as in this case – the feeling s of hunger pains. God promises to give mercy and show grace in our times of temptation, but first we must call on him (Hebrews 4:15-16).
Pray – Pray that you will not be led into temptation, but will be delivered from evil. Deliverance will take place only if you equip yourself with the Word of God, and the Word will fight your battles.
Let’s Pray – We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Thank you Lord that your grace and mercy abounds, and you have given us a way to flee from evil.
