Read Matthew 21:33-44
“Anyone who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed” (Matthew 21:44).
I often question, like many others why God’s people suffer or deal with great difficulty in life. Some questions just cannot be answered at this time, but we must trust that all things work together for our good (Romans 8:28).
I came across Matthew 21:44 and as I reflected on this verse, God began to answer that nagging question we’ve all asked a time or two. Anyone who relies on or puts total trust in Jesus must be broken and refined (2 Corinthians 12:9, Zechariah 13:8-9). If you think about it, most of our struggles bring us closer to God and make us stronger and better people. And likewise, when we resist God and deny his word, we find ourselves crushed – brokenhearted and in a low and dusty place.
Where are you today? Are you being refined into a stronger and better person? If so, rejoice in your current situation knowing that joy comes in the morning (Psalms 30:5). If you are currently licking the dust, it’s not too late to return to your savior. In fact, he is calling you – waiting for you with open arms.
